Diego Maradona’s younger brother Hugo died in Naples at the age of 52 on Tuesday, December 28. He died of a heart attack just over a year after the Argentinian genius died.
The president of the club, Aurelio De Laurentiis, and the team “gather around the family of Maradona and unite with her in the pain caused by the disappearance of Hugo”, reacted the Napoli in a statement on its website . Hugo Maradona, father of three, living in Miami (Florida, south-eastern United States), was pronounced dead when help arrived at his home in Monte di Procida, in the Neapolitan metropolitan area.
A former player, Hugo Maradona had played in Italy, Austria, Spain, Argentina and Japan before returning to Italy to settle there permanently and pursue a brief coaching career with amateur clubs in Naples. He had recently run on a right-wing list in the municipal elections, ultimately won by the left. He had barely come of age in the great southern port city in 1987, recruited by Napoli, before being loaned to Ascoli. On September 20 of the same year, the two brothers faced each other in a game that Napoli won 2-1.
