The 25-year-old Australian opening batsman Phil Hughes is in a critical condition after being hit by a bouncer at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
A bouncer from New South Wales' Sean Abbott hit Phil Hughes on the head knocking the South Australia batsman out during a Sheffield Shield match at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Tuesday afternoon.
The left-handed batsman fell down flat on the ground. The officials rushed him to the hospital immediately where a surgery has been performed on Hughes.
"When he arrived he underwent a set of scans to establish the extent of his injuries and then a decision was made to perform surgery. All I could confirm is that he did sustain a head injury and that he is in a critical condition at the moment", said the official spokesperson of the hospital.
